South Florida poker rooms have very strong vendors.The majority of vendors are kind, knowledgeable, and prompt. Perhaps managing in South Florida is a desirable job because of the steady and dependable mobility (see Cash Game area below). Regardless of the reason, the vendor quality was good. Consistently strong to outstanding, but not quite Turning Stone solid.
In contrast, South Florida poker rooms are renowned for their scenes. The poker area at Hard Rock Hollywood and Coconut Creek, two Seminole casinos, is considered an important component of a larger, profitable betting complex. Gulfstream Park’s ringer cow is their beautiful course at the other end of the spectrum. In terms of importance, the casino clearly lags behind both live and simulcast hustles. Additionally, the poker area, which is dark, dirty, and tucked up in the back, is at the bottom of the list of Gulfstream’s contributions.
The poker area at The Big Easy seems to be an essential part of the entire casino. Compared with the initial regions, it was noticeably more lively and active. The poker room has its own area outside of Sorcery City. The Magic City poker room feels like a separate entity within a larger building that houses various activities. Dania Beach has a charming, moderately sized casino with a well-designed poker area, although there isn’t much activity outside of its regulars. Each location has a different mix of players, with Seminole Coconut Creek being more established and The Big Easy offering a remarkable range of nationalities, ages, and sexual orientations. Overall, the players’ rooms were generally friendly. One of the reasons we performed there twice was because Seminole Coconut Creek stood out the most in this way. Due in part to the contestants’ perseverance and openness, Coconut Creek’s Crazy Pineapple competition was enjoyable. Naturally, dealers occasionally forgot to collect disposals before starting to haggle for the turn. Rather of being bothered, these minutes were greeted with encouragement and laughter. Out of all the settings we played in, Gulfstream felt the most unwelcoming because its players were the most sincere.
The number of women playing poker increased at The Big Easy, where there were a good number of women, after dropping at Magic City, where Heather was one of just three women in the entire room, whether it was for money or competitiveness. Additionally, there were only a few women participating in the competition or at the money tables at Gulfstream Park.
With the exception of Dania Beach, the majority of South Florida rooms provide dynamic money games. A typical Saturday night could have anywhere from 10 to 30 tables of money going on (with Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood at the top end). $1/$2 NLH will be a fraction of those tables. Cash movement remains high on weeknights, even if the majority of rooms—especially the larger ones—fall off. The drop-off is irrelevant at places like The Big Easy, where they might have 15–16 tables on a Saturday night and only 12–13 tables on a Tuesday. The daily “free” 7 p.m. competition might help maintain a steady volume.
